Why We Built YourKeep: The Mission for Personal Digital Sovereignty

Over the last twenty years, human civilization transitioned almost entirely into a digital existence. Our most cherished personal memories, creative works, business records, and legal identities are now recorded in bits and bytes.

Yet, as our digital wealth grew, our control over that wealth quietly eroded.

We were told to trust centralized cloud corporations. We were told that paying recurring monthly subscriptions would keep our data safe forever. We were told that proprietary algorithms would handle everything for us.

The reality, however, has been a steady stream of account lockouts, platform shutdowns, sudden price hikes, and privacy breaches.

The Core Belief Behind YourKeep

We founded YourKeep on a simple, uncompromising conviction:

Your data should belong exclusively to you. Its preservation should not depend on our company’s survival, a cloud provider’s goodwill, or an ongoing subscription payment. It should depend solely on the unchanging laws of mathematics.

The 3 Foundations of Our Architecture

  1. Local-First, Zero-Knowledge Execution: Your files are encrypted on your device before touching any storage medium.
  2. Mathematical Threshold Resiliency: Files are transformed into independent fragments (e.g. 6-of-10). Losing multiple hard drives or cloud accounts simultaneously causes zero data loss.
  3. Open, Universal Specifications: Our container format is published and open. Anyone can implement an independent recovery tool forever.
