Community giveaways · Educational content · Product demos · Honest feedback

A backup that does not depend on one company.

YourKeep encrypts important files locally, splits them into independent recovery chunks and lets users store those chunks across different cloud providers, NAS devices or local drives. With enough chunks and the recovery key, the original file can be restored.

01 · Local

Files are protected on the user’s own device.

YourKeep does not upload original files or recovery keys to company servers.

02 · Resilient

Partial loss does not have to mean total loss.

Users can distribute recovery chunks across independent storage locations.

03 · Open

Recovery is not locked to the official app.

The core protocol, encryption and recovery implementation are open source.

How YourKeep works

Local-first encryption, independent recovery fragments, and zero server dependency. Your data stays completely under your control.

Frequently asked questions

Short answers that community moderators and members can quote directly.

What is YourKeep?+

YourKeep is a local-first backup tool for important files. It encrypts files on the user’s device and creates multiple recovery chunks that can be stored across different locations.

Does YourKeep upload user files?+

No. YourKeep does not require an account or a company-operated storage server. File protection and recovery take place locally on the user’s device.

What happens if some recovery chunks are lost?+

A backup can be configured so that only a required number of chunks is needed for recovery. Losing some chunks therefore does not necessarily prevent restoration.

Can someone read the data from only a few chunks?+

Recovery requires both enough valid chunks and the user’s recovery key. Individual or insufficient chunks are not intended to reveal the original file.

Is YourKeep open source?+

The core protocol, encryption/decryption implementation and recovery implementation are open source, allowing independent review and compatible recovery tools.

Will recovery remain free?+

Yes. YourKeep’s file recovery capability is intended to remain free, so users are never required to pay again simply to regain access to files they already protected.

What if YourKeep disappears in the future?+

The format and recovery implementation are open. The goal is that user data should not depend on the survival of YourKeep as a company or official app.

Do community members need to post a positive review?+

No. Partnership access should not be conditional on ratings, positive reviews or promotional claims. Honest feedback is more useful.
